The cause of death in the mass suicide of 39 computer cult members
in California has been determined. It seems that they all died of
asphyxiation...

...they couldn't get their "WINDOWS" open

From a fellow Radnix:

I was listening to "Talk of the Nation" on NPR this afternoon, about
the mass suicide in California, when a very excited caller said he'd
been amazed to hear about the suicide because of stuff he had seen
just recently at the Web site of a cult called the Church of the
SubGenius. The Church, he said, had predicted (long before it
actually came!) a comet called "Hail Bob" that would be followed
within a year by a UFO. The comet would prove to Christian-based
religions that the Church of the SubGenius was right and the
Christians should kill themselves. And now here was the comet--so OK,
the name was a little different, but still--and then this happens! He
speculated that the suicides could be a response to the SubGenius
prediction.

One of the guests on the show replied that the Church of the SubGenius
was an elaborate parody of religion. The caller said he had heard
that, but he had also heard that the "parody" explanation was
something the Church uses to avoid being persecuted.

It was the best part of the program.

STAY WHERE YOU ARE. DO NOT MOVE. YOU WILL BE CONTACTED. ANY OTHER COURSE
OF ACTION COULD BE DANGEROUS.

That "braodcast" didn't really happen. That was an electropsychebeam
sent over the power grid. Only those for whom knowledge of the details
could be harmful could have perceived it.

}I want to see for myself what scared him!

Do not mention this to anyone you have face-to-face contact with.

Until such a time as it can be made clear to you, simply keep in mind
that cheese is your enemy. You can protect yourself until we get there
by getting a draw-string garbage bag, poking two holes in the bottom, and
wearing it over your pants.

We will come to you but will make no effort to contact you. You must say
to us first "rub my brain," and we will reply "foregone concussion", and
you will know you are being rescused. You will know us because we will
be wearing jeans and t-shirts.

"DON'T PRAY. You never know WHAT might be listening."

In the past few days on TV news coverage (mostly CNN, CNBC and MSNBC) I've
seen inumerable quick little refences to The Church of the SubGenius.
Mostly these are quick scrolls of link pages with little icons next to the
links, and WHAP! there's a dobbshead. I did see the front page of SubSite
once very quickly. If The Church does somehow get pulled into this, I
can't see anyone complaining - it's bound to boost sales.

With the cult-bashing frenzy that is sure to follow this event (not to
mention all those crispy Solar Temple goons) NOW it is the time to stand
on the street corner with your pamphlets and get shouting in public!
