Einstein's Secret Outlaws set list, 5X-Day 2002
Chas Smith - Bass, vocals, keyboards
Lonesome Cowboy Dave: Guitar, vocals
Bob Mozik: Drums
John Petkovic: guitar
Frank: guitar
Special guest, harmonica and vocals: Dr. K'taden Legume
This is from the list I found on the stage after the ESO concert:
Bang a Gong (T-Rex)
Ghost Riders in the Sky (the great c&w/surf classic)
Highwayman (Johnny Cash?)
Kaw Liga (Johnny Cash?)
Sex Dimension (Chas Smith, Dave Deluca)
Shanda Handa (trad?)
Faith Healer (Alex Harvey)
Whipping Post (Allman Bros)
The President's On the Phone (Lonesome Cowboy Dave)
Sympathy for the Devil (Stones)
Arizona (Chas Smith)
Wanted Man (Johnny Cash)
Rusty Cage (Waylon Jennings)
No Expectations (Stones)
I Fought the Law -?
Drill Instructor was in here somewhere, with Dr. Legume
on vocals
Encore:
Fever
Graveyard
Walk on the Wild Side
Stepping Stone
Totally different sound than ESO's previous incarnation.
Minus the
electric violin but with another guitar added, and a
punk-country
rather than space-rock feel. Folks, I had been a little
worried at
first when the band's line-up changed. I worry no more.
This was one of
the most crowd-pleasin' concerts I ever saw. Women who
NEVER take their
shirts off to dance did so for this band.

The women all ran backstage and blew us afterwards. It was way kewl.
You should have seen the fucking kickass ESO show the
night before at
Bonobo-a-gogo. It rocked like fuck-all, and had something
like SIX
drummers, including Raphael, Ed Strange, and Carter
LeBlanc.

One of the highlights of the set was watching Goome
and Chas face off in a
true Subgenius DUEL! Legume with his automatic rifle,
Chas with guitar. The
weapons were raised, aim taken with presision, and at
point blank range
watching Legume empty clips of ammo into Chas' form,
while Chas peppers
Gumey with notes that hit harder than any silly pink
weapon of mass
destruction. Several Bobbies caught the stray shots,
and no one noticed as
they dropped.
And not only did Chas and Goome kill each other, the
promptly rose from the
dead to the cheering of the crowd.
And Legume proved how much of a badass he is by serving
drinks at T-Base
right afterwords as if nothing had happened.

Actually, Kaw Liga was penned by Hank Williams Sr. and Charlie Pride.

Seems to me I distinctly remember screaming my ass off
to "Final Solution"
by Pere Ubu during the last cut of the night.

You can see how developed is my sense of pop trivia,
outside of monster
movies, underground comic books, and acid rock. For
instance, when I
saw "Stepping Stone" on the set list, I thought,
"Wow, how odd, they're
gonna do a Hendrix song."

I couldn't come in with a camera, and the camera was
grafted to my
wrist in place of my jack-off hand, so I filmed a somewhat
less
conventional performance by the youths and the subgenius.net
heretics
at the pavillion. I was refering to the Tiki Banzai
Lounge as "that
old folks' disco".
What you guys saw might have rocked but what I saw WOTANNED.
