Well, any INWO player could have told you who the Illuminati are:
* The Bavarian Illuminati -- "The object of power is power," O'Brien (not
Miles) told Winston Smith; these people live by that law. Like a lot of
Control Game players, they were originally founded by somebody who'd had
an enlightenment experience (the man we know as "Adam Weishaupt") and
wanted to bring enlightenment to the world; after he died, it fell to
infighting, and the public face disappeared.
* The Bermuda Triangle -- Interesting in controlling all ends of the
imaginary spectrum we call "politics".
* The Discordian Society -- Hail Her What Done It All. An anti-Con,
struggling to carry Her message: "I am Chaos, and I tell you that you are
free."
* The Gnomes of Zurich -- When you hear somebody like James Daugherty talk
about "international bankers", this is who he means. In this increasingly
commodified society, probably the cllosest to their goal of owning the
Earth.
* The Network -- A conspiracy of computer programmers and/or AIs. They
seek information -- whether to hoard it or scatter it, I don't know.
* The Servants of Cthulhu -- Delight in pure destruction, wait for the
time when the stars will be right.
* Shangri-La -- Seeking global enlightenment, even after millennia.
* The Society of Assassins -- The shadow cast by the original Brotherhood
of Light.
* The UFOs -- Beings from dozens of galaxies, each pursuing their own
impenetrable goals. See also Xists, Yacatisma, Greys, Krlll...

Actually, this is a good excuse to discuss my own conspiracy theory in some
more detail than I've hitherto done.
To be honest, I'm not always sure there _is_ a conspiracy. A wise man once
exhorted us never to attribute to malice that which might be adequately
explained by stupidity. The problem is that the general f*cked-up state of
society on this Planet of the Clocks in the year of their Lord 3 BX cannot
always be explained by mere stupidity. Fortunately, this doesn't happen
all the time -- only on days ending in Y.
But when I _do_ believe in a conspiracy, I don't consider it necessarily
monolithic -- there are at _least_ two, maybe even three, different factions
at work here. Call them whatever you want -- Anglophiles and Vaticanites
-- Republicrats and Demogogues -- Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia -- they've
got the Real Power, and We are on the outside looking away, because They've
taught Us never to look too closely at Them.
But it's really too late to be talking about this -- maybe in the morning,
when I'm actually awake...

There are TWO conspiracies. One has existed before human beings. The
other MAY have existed before human beings.
The younger conspiracy is the child of the elder. They sometimes work
together, but they are opposed enough that this opposition has worked
itself into human myth and philosophy.
The wars between angels and demons, gods and giants... these are all
metaphors for the war between the two oldest conspiracies. The war
between DNA and memes...

About the Mind/Body war:
there *is* a conflict ... DNA has certain solutions to the problems of
life and attaining immortality, which includes various lapses of control
(sexual arrousal, fear responses, &c.) The Mind often has NON-biological
goals of its own, which go against survival instincts, socializing
instincts, and the like.
Of course, the WAR is more of a metaphor. This inherent conflict between
body needs and mind desires has woven its way into theology and
philosophy. Let's take Christianity: "the flesh is willing, but the
spirit is weak"... Christianity has developed a moral philosophy based on
the idea that animal desires are the temptations of demons, making
freedom from the body a moral goal. Hence, the concentration on an
Afterlife.
You can see similar trends in other religions and philosophies, including
Buddhism, New Age, Scientology, Theosophy... these are all "disembodied"
religions: they concentrate on a goal of "rising above the animal".
But, of course: you become what you resist. And so Pink culture is ruled
by DISGUISED ANIMAL PASSIONS.
I urge everyone AGAIN to read Philip Wylie's _Generation of Vipers_... he
talked about instincts becomin mythologized, prettied up so we can forget
that war is just pissing on rocks to mark your territory... Of course,
Robert Anton Wilson *also* talked about this (_Prometheus Rising_,
_Schroedinger's Cat_.)
And don't forget "Bob". The whole point of "Bob" justifying our sins is
that we can forget about our war against our flesh. JHVH-1 wants us to
FORNICATE. Not "marry"! FUCK LIKE ANIMALS. EAT LIKE PIGS. Tear into
the flesh of succulent lambs!
You can't MASTER the body with the mind and try to be a disembodied
creature. Nor can you ROT YOUR BRAIN with fuzzy little thoughts and let
EACH INDEPENDENT CELL OF YOUR BODY have an equal say over what you do
next. Both ways lead to PinkDom.
When the body does what the body does best, and the mind does what the
mind does best, and you DON'T fight one against the other, THEN you have
a chance...

You must be talking about AltFuture f0b0s0, or one of the futures along
that branch... the futures I'm familiar with generally include a
degeneration in pronunciation of "meme" until it sounds the same and
means the same thing as "maim". The theory of contagious violence pretty
much dominates v9b1s0 by the year 2045, as I recall...
