Macbeth, to be precise. One of the omens fortelling Macbeth's downfall was
Dunsinane Wood moving against him. Guess from which direction a seriously

you've NEVER read Macbeth? Or seen it or anything?

ok sorry, it isn't like the most important thing in human history or
anything but that threw me a little. Anybody who has read any of the
bible and none of Shakespeare has missed out a bit.

I would recommend a movie version ... there are good filmed versions
of most of Shakespeare's plays ... but not of Macbeth. Actors are
superstitous and there is supposed to be a curse on Macbeth so they
hate doing it. This is of course damned superstitous nonsense, a few
movie versions of made without any "curse" showing up of course, one
made by Orson Welles right about the time his career collapsed, and
one by Roman Polanski whose wife was murdered by the Manson family
during the filming of the movie.

You might be able to find the Welles version in your local video
store, the Polanski version is OK but not very "faithful".

Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
Who struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury ,
Signifying nothing.

Yeah! And the Weird Sisters!
(timely for Halloween!)

A dark Cave. In the middle, a Caldron Boiling.

[Thunder. Enter the three Witches.]

FIRST WITCH.
Thrice the brinded cat hath mew'd.

SECOND WITCH.
Thrice; and once the hedge-pig whin'd.

THIRD WITCH.
Harpier cries:--"tis time, 'tis time.

FIRST WITCH.
Round about the caldron go;
In the poison'd entrails throw.--
Toad, that under cold stone,
Days and nights has thirty-one
Swelter'd venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first i' the charmed pot!

ALL.
Double, double, toil and trouble;
Fire, burn; and caldron, bubble.

SECOND WITCH.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and howlet's wing,--
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

ALL.
Double, double, toil and trouble;
Fire, burn; and caldron, bubble.

THIRD WITCH.
Scale of dragon, tooth of wolf,
Witch's mummy, maw and gulf
Of the ravin'd salt-sea shark,
Root of hemlock digg'd i' the dark,
Liver of blaspheming Jew,
Gall of goat, and slips of yew
Sliver'd in the moon's eclipse,
Nose of Turk, and Tartar's lips,
Finger of birth-strangl'd babe
Ditch-deliver'd by a drab,--
Make the gruel thick and slab:
Add thereto a tiger's chaudron,
For the ingredients of our caldron.

ALL.
Double, double, toil and trouble;
Fire, burn; and caldron, bubble.

SECOND WITCH.
Cool it with a baboon's blood,
Then the charm is firm and good.

There were actually a few films that contained Shakespeare, and one of
which was "MacBeth on Manhatten" or something like that. It was a
bunch of Broadway actors/actresses that incurred the wrath of
Shakespeare. Purty interesting.
Check it out if you dare

I've read Shakespeare. Just not Macbeth.
Not that I could remember a damn thing about the Shakespeare I *have* read- not
to mention there are so many take offs and parodies, you never know anymore
what you're remembering *what* from.

One of my favorite quotes, even though its tired; still love it. Many of the
things in Shakespeare are just awe inspiring. It's like he distilled all the
gold from literary heaven in one swoop leaving nothing uncommented on except
those things that did not exist in his day (though even then, his themes still
address them).

The closest most people ever come to reading Shakespeare is when they
watch "Forbidden Planet." Goddamned ferrets.
