They must have outsourced the ad copy to a writer in Crawford Texas.

I dunno. There have been some remarkably lucid and well thought-out
editorials in Crawford's town paper lately.

But George W. Bush ISN'T from Crawford. He owns a "ranch" seven miles
outside of town, which he bought while organizing his Presidential
campaign in 1999. That's his only connection with the town.

"I'm from Crawford, Texas" is pure spin.

Now, this ranch is a ranch in only the loosest possible sense of the
word. The buildings have been converted to guest and Secret Service
housing, and the only agricultural function performed on the land is the
grazing 200 head of cattle (nowhere near what the land is capable of
easily supporting). Those cattle aren't owned by the President, of
course. They're leased from the ranch's former owner's son, who lives
on the property. (I wonder what sort of landlord Bush is.)

Imagine if John Kerry sold the townhouse on Beacon Hill, bought a crappy
farm in Worchester County, leased a few chickens, gave metric shitloads
of photo ops wearing a cowboy hat and driving around in a pickup truck,
intoning "Ah'm from Woo-stah County" until you were really really sick
of it.

Same thing.
