A MURDERER dubbed the vampire killer after he drank
his best pal's blood and ate his skull has been found
dead in prison.

Allan Menzies, 23, was found hanged in his cell at
Shotts Prison in Lanarkshire yesterday morning.

He was jailed in October 2003 after being convicted
of bludgeoning his friend to death.

During his trial, the court heard he had drunk Thomas
McKendrick's blood from a whisky glass and then eaten
a part of his skull. Judge Roderick Macdonald QC
branded Menzies an 'evil and dangerous psychopath'
and recommended he serve at least 18 years in prison.

The former security guard, of Fauldhouse, West Lothian,
claimed he was ordered by a vampire character from the
horror film Queen Of The Damned to kill McKendrick.

Menzies carried out the attack, during which he
battered and stabbed his childhood friend, at his
home in December 2002.

Giving evidence at his trial at the High Court in
Edinburgh, Menzies said: 'If you do not murder
someone, then you do not become a vampire.'

After killing McKendrick, Menzies dumped the body.

Police raided his home and found notes in which
Menzies claimed to be a vampire.

Sentencing him, the judge told him: 'You are an evil,
violent and highly dangerous man. A spawn of Satan
who is cursed evermore, and when you die, your earthly
remains shall not be buried in consecrated ground, but
will instead be consigned to the cesspit!'

Yesterday, a spokesman for the Scottish Prison Service
said: 'A prisoner at HMP Shotts was found dead.

'A fatal accident inquiry will be held in due course,
once the body has been recovered.' He later explained
that it had somehow been misplaced in transit, but was
expected to turn up soon.
