Or something.
It's a list of states sorted by average IQ, and colored by which
candidate carried them in Tuesday's election. Cute, I thought.

I find it difficult to believe that the *average* IQ in missippi (or any
geographic area, for that matter) is 85. Isn't 85 around the point that
tieing shoelaces might pose problems? Wouldn't forrest gump be around an
85?

Depends on the scale being used.
However, being in Oklaholema I'd believe 90 is about right.
Especially if you see the way folks drive.. if you call what they
do driving. More like bumpercars without bumpers.

I found this site:
http://www.sq.4mg.com/IQstates.htm
Which says the numbers are a hoax.
The correlation did seem a little overboard.
On the other hand, I then took the hoax numbers, the correct numbers,
and a series of random numbers; and the bush/kerry breakdown, and
measured the correlations.
I assigned Kerry votes a value of 1 and Bush votes a value of 0.
The correlation with IQ and vote for the hoax numbers is 0.80, which
is very high. For comparison, I took a column of random values, then
a second column which was first column * 2, and the correlation of
that is 1.00, the highest possibility, so 0.80 is a very strong
correlation. Correlating with random ones and zeroes gives a
correlation around 0, in other words, no relation. (Just to check my
math).
Then I took the correct IQ figures and did the same thing.
Despite being the "EXPOSE THE HOAX!" numbers, they give a correlation
of IQ to voting against Chimp-boy at 0.426 ... which, actually, is
stil a pretty strong correlation.
So yes, the IQ figures are exaggerated ... but the basic point
actually appears to be true, despite that.

Well that was cool as shit.

[snip]
Way over the threshold of significance, if you're talking sloppy social
science (and we are).

I like demographics! What does it mean?
People don't want to vote for someone smarter than themselves?
The Xtian Right is retarded? People on the downside of <100 are
paralized?
All of the dumb people live in the middle of the country?
For the answers to these and other questions, tune-in next week!

Well, it's an HTML table, not an image, so that'd be a bitch, and
besides the server's back up.
