Van Gogh murder: Muslims targetted

The Muslim community in the Netherlands has
been targeted in several attacks following the
murder of controversial Dutch filmmaker
Theo van Gogh whose suspected killer has ties
with Islamic extremists.
The latest attack took place on Monday at an
Islamic school in the southeastern city of Eindhoven
where a bomb blast caused heavy damage but
no injuries, authorities said.
Five mosques were also targeted by arsonists
at the weekend and a sixth was daubed with
offensive slogans and pig heads. <---(pig heads! Baaa

Authorities have linked the attacks to the brutal
murder last Tuesday of Van Gogh by a suspected
radical Muslim of Moroccan origin who is in police custody.
Van Gogh was widely known for his criticism of Islam
and recently caused an uproar with a short film linking
domestic abuse with the perceived subservient position
of women in the Islamic faith.
Five other suspects, all of North African origin, have also been arrested
in relation to his murder.
Eindhoven mayor Alexander Sakkers lamented the escalation in violence
Monday and appealed to calm while Amsterdam's council of churches expressed
its solidarity with the Muslim community in an advertisement in the local
daily Het Parool.
"Why must such a horrible act (as the killing of Van Gogh) lead to such
consequences?" Sakkers was quoted as saying by the Dutch news agency ANP.
"This blast must not destabilise our society," he added. "We must prevent
people from blaming one another.
"This act committed by an imbecile must be condemned by all."
Muslim houses of worship and Islamic schools have been under surveillance
since van Gogh's murder but police patrols would be stepped up, Sakkers
said.
Eindhoven has some 20 000 Muslims inhabitants in a total population of 210
000 people. Driss el Boujoufi, deputy head of Ummon association, which
oversees some 90 Moroccan mosques in the country, also said that security
had been boosted at places of worship and schools.
"We have asked our followers to be on the lookout around mosques and
schools," he told ANP. "But most mosques don't have the means to ensure
security round-the-clock."
Interior Minister Johan Remkes on Sunday described the attacks as "isolated
incidents".
Meanwhile an internet site set up for condolences following Van Gogh's
murder was forced to shut down because of a flood of racist messages. But
several far-right marches in Amsterdam failed to attract a large crowd.
Out of a population of 16 million the Netherlands has some 900 000 Muslims
and of those some 300 000 are of Moroccan descent. The authorities estimate
that between three and five percent of all Dutch Muslims support radical
ideas.
In recent days days Dutch authorities have stepped up security for a

I found the dichotomy very striking when I happened to take
a shortcut off the Interstate and drove thru 600 miles of rural
GA and TN recently (with Pa plates on my car) and observed
many churches on one corner/intersection and a beer joint/bar
across the street on the other.
The locals also found my yankee Philadelphia Pa type speaking
style to be quite amusing, whilst at the various eateries and truck
rest stops we visited. (plus my Jap car seemed to be the newest
one on the road)

Well that is kind of typical of socially-enforced morality. It's like
the well-meaning crackers who say "I wouldn't mind homos if they could
just act straight in public". Or the "relative decriminalization" of
marijuana; nowadays, in a lot of places, it's illegal but there is
next to no punishment for it (well, unless they FEEL like cracking
down on it).
Is it illegal or isn't it? That isn't really the point. People want
the law to say it's WRONG. They don't really CARE if people do it,
just as long as we are all clear that it's WRONG.
The thing is, a morality based on an angry-God type of paradigm
doesn't really work if nobody SINS. Sin, the Wrath of God, remorse,
and redemption are the whole dynamic of it. That's why Christians are
always fixated, not on the prim Schoolmarm who has never committed a
sin in her life, but on the bad boy Johnny Cash type who has WALLOWED
in sin and stands at the gates of redemption. That's INTERESTING.
The schoolmarm isn't.
See I think you haven't been around real bible-thumping church-going
Christians in their native habitat much; lucky you. There are always
a good handful of them in any social circle who drink or otherwise sin
regularly. And the rest of them spend large amounts of time nattering
about these lost sheep and plotting their redemption to the fold. If
these devils did not exist, it would be necessary to invent them.
And why? Because this places ALL of them into the great drama of
redemption. Plots their lives onto a cosmic scale.
So when your rural cracker in Georgia sits on that bar stool in his
Caterpillar basebal cap drinking beer, he isn't some obscure lumpy
loser, he's a SINNER taking part in the great drama.

How is this a problem? Achmed and Kusay have a problem that relates to how
long Kusay should not speak with Achmed's wife after seeing her without her

resolution. All criminal matters still go to Provicial / Federal courts.

Sufism is the “heart’ of the Sharia

Ethnography Department (the Daghestan branch).
There are many views concerning Sufism. Numerous books and special treatises in
many languages have been dedicated to this sacred teaching of Islam. However, a
great number of these works was written by those, who have not gone along the Path
themselves. It is similar to explaining the taste of a peach without ever trying
the fruit itself. Such writings create the wrong picture of this Great teaching
among the readers.
The truest and the deepest essence of Sufism is not intended for the public
disclosure. Sufi sacred knowledge and experience are passed only at a private
meeting with the master (or murshid). The disciple (or murid) should be by no means
aware of what is yet ahead of him. That is why a Sufi knows of Sufism only that,
which he had learned from his own experience on the Path. Even an enlightened Sufi
does not take unto himself the task of writing about Sufism without a special
permission from his master, even if only the outward side of Sufism, such as its
history and general philosophical ideas, is concerned. Sufi sheikh Hasan-Hilmi
al-Kakhibi ad-Daghestan writes in one of his books that he has said about the
teaching just as much as he was allowed to say by his master.
Another difficulty lies in the fact, that many aspects of the teaching simply
cannot be described. There are things, that Sufi sees and knows - yet is unable to
explain. Imagine, for example, that a person, who is blind from birth, asks you to
explain what the green color looks like. We see that color every day but we cannot
explain what it looks like. Just as those, who can see, are unable to provide the
blind with the explanations of many things around them, so is the Sufi, for whom it
is difficult to express in words that which is open to him. To understand all this,
a person has to reach enlightenment by means of a special Sufi practice. He has to
open his “spiritual sight” and extend his own conscience far beyond the limits of
the material/ carnal existence – to achieve super-conscience.
A parable says, that several scholars-alims came to a sheikh and asked him to
explain them what Sufism is. “If Allah wishes so, you will hear my explanation,”-
replied the sheikh. He invited them into the house and asked to wait for a while,
while he withdrew to a separate room and prayed to Allah to take his sole away and
deliver him from speaking to his guests of Sufism. The deep sense of the parable
shows that it is impossible to teach the truth, to explain the essence of the Sufi
teaching even to scholars, who’s very disposition is to search for knowledge. It is
also impossible to render in words a special spiritual state, that can be achieved
by Sufi practice. That is why Sufis say: “Everything that can be expressed in words
– is not Sufism”.
Speaking about Sufism, one should know his listener. It is very often impossible to
explain the essence of Sufism to a secular person, who has been absorbing the
secular ideology throughout his whole life. Such person would rather understand
Sufism through those laws and wisdoms which he is used to follow, taking views easy
for his understanding. But he will never succeed because of many reasons. One of
them is that the laws of spiritual life are entirely different from the laws of
existence of the flesh (carnal/material world).
The true substance of the sacred Islamic teaching is revealed by Allah’s kindness
only to those, who are seeking and making effort to achieve an inside understanding
of Sufism by means of the special spiritual practice. But one should practice Sufi
psychotechnique only under the guidance of an experienced and true sufi master – a
spiritual teacher (murshid), strictly following all his instructions.
A question may arise: what is the purpose of Sufism? What does it give?
Sufism – is a sacred teaching, which holds the “key” to the world’s knowledge. Its
goal is to bring the man up to the higher level of perfection. The mankind was
given science and Sufism: the first - to comprehend the creations of the Most High
Allah and the second - to perceive the Most High Allah, to reach the Truth. Hence
the specific range of means and methods used in Sufi practice, which are quite
difficult for understanding. Sufism teaches to gain understanding of the true
reality. It is not only about who the man is, but also what should be his ideal.
Reaching this level opens an unlimited scope of possibilities for a man.
A lot has been written about the phenomenal abilities of certain people, including
clairvoyants and prophets. But the superior abilities of the most recognized of
them are just a thousand part of what the true Sufis can do. Sufi level is
unachievable for those who acquired their skills in a different way. The secret
mystical pre-Islamic religions are also inferior to Sufism in this respect.
People often say that phenomenal abilities of clairvoyants and prophets, such as,
for instance, Nostradamus or Vanga, come from God. Those, who are endowed by Him,
reveal such abilities. From the one hand, it is true, from the other – not so true.
The truth is that Allah gives such abilities to a man from the very beginning just
as each man is born with nails, teeth and hair. The question is how to reveal those
abilities, how to prompt to awakening the hidden mechanisms of human nature
responsible for their exposure. At this stage of development mankind is still far
from being perfect. Depending directly on the level of human perfection, its
potential abilities are only “half-sleeping”.
At the same time Sufism does not seek to reveal human super abilities just for the
sake of doing so. It should by no means be the reason for starting the journey
along this Great and Sacred Path. And if superior abilities, revealed during the
practice, become the matter of great interest for an experienced disciple, the
master shall free him from them so that they would not hinder the disciple’s
ascending to the Truth.
But superior abilities are badly needed for obtaining and understanding the
superior knowledge. He who can neither dive nor swim will never see the bottom of
the lake. Enlightened Sufis know that the man, the unique creation of Allah, is the
unity of the three elements: the flesh/carnal/materially body, the materially thin
substance (or “nafs”) and the fundamental substance of the human existence – the
soul. Nafs is also called “the animal soul” and it is known in today’s experimental
science as biological field. It forms the frame of the materially thick human body,
has an egg-like shape (which narrows down to the feet) and consists of seven
information- and-energy layers – “bodies”. Each of them is an intricate structure,
with its proper energetical structure, color (nafs colors in general are close to
the rainbow colors), frequency vibration range, polarization and so on. Our
materially thick body is connected to six of them through a sort of
energy-information “cords”. Their joint areas, seen as coin-size circles, are
called lataifs. Lataifs are the keys to nafs. Through them Sufi works at the
beginning of the Path on making his nafs healthy, perfect and harmonious, rich in
divine meaning, with his master conducting and directing the work. The spiritual
sight helps a Sufi sheikh in this work by allowing him to see the lataifs and nafs
as a whole as well as in detail, to watch what is happening in the materially thin
substance of a murid.
Master candidates are supposed to meet very high standards. The cases are known
when a master would select as his successor only one disciple out of thousands. For
example, a widely known Daghestan Sufi sheikh Mama-Dibir al-Rochi ad-Dagestani has
not left any successor at all, although he had had several thousands of murids
(disciples). Ideally, a Sufi murshid must be absolutely perfect and such
perfection, naturally, leads to his superior abilities being revealed. The higher
the level of perfection, the more significant they are. The superior abilities,
given to a man by Allah, become revealed with each step towards perfection.
All the above said is just one of many sides of Sufism, which to a great extent is
connected with the manifested substance. The crucial thing is that sufi practice
cleans, heals, strengthens, harmonizes and prepares our “spirit” as well as the
basis of our existence – our soul, for spiritual life after their separation from
the flesh/materially thick body. The supreme aim of Sufism is to know the Most High
Allah and to know the Truth.
There is one more thing. An alim said: “One third of the Qur’an is tarikat”.
Another said: “One half of the Qur’an is tarikat”. Another said: “ They are both
wrong. Tarikat is the whole Qur’an ”. In the whole text of the Holy Qur’an one will
never find Sufism given as a systematized teaching, for one single whole cannot be
divided. Heart, brains, muscles, bones and other components – together they form a
single organism. So does Sufism constitute one single whole together with the
teaching of Islam. If the heart is rent from the organism, it will neither
function, nor will the organism itself be alive without the heart. For that reason
Islam and Sufism should not be confronted one against the other.
For example, one can be taught some knowledge in chemistry within the frames of the
school curriculum. Perhaps, it will be enough for him. But if he wants to go deeply
into the subject, he will have to study it more thoroughly, learn its laws at a
higher level. The same can be said about the Sharia, an open teaching of Islam, the
teaching for all and for everybody. Sharia provides the necessary basis for
spiritual life. At the same time there are more sacred levels of existence.
Reaching them requires concentrated and persistent work. And Sufism is the very
means and method of knowing the Truth.
It is perfectly justified to call Sufism the Sharia’s “heart”. For Sufi, who has
devoted his life to the quest of the Truth and who seeks not but God, the unity of
the Sharia and Tarikat (Sufism), the absolute compliance with the Sharia is the
indispensable condition of knowing the Truth. Shuaib-afandi al-Bagini ad-Dagestani,
the revered sufi sheikh, kutb and hafiz, writes about himself in this respect: “All
my life I have been living in strict compliance with all the instructions of the
Holy Qur’an and the hadithes of the Prophet Muhammad”. Thus it is crucial for the
true Sufi to live by the Sharia, the core principle of Sufism,. That is why Sufi
can bee seen as the Sharia’s purity “guard”.
The history of Daghestan shows, for instance, that at the times when atheism
propaganda was at its highest, Islam was best preserved in those regions where sufi
traditions were the strongest. In the 19th – and at the beginning of the 20th
centuries Sufism played an important role in the history of Daghestan. Such
prominent figures as Muhammad al-Yaragi, Jamal ad-Din al-Kazikumukhi, imams
Gazi-Muhammad and Shamil, imam Muhammad-hajji al-Salti and many others, who headed
the movement for the purity of the Sharia, were murshids or Sufis, gone along the
Path from the beginning till the end. Islam’s strong position in Daghestan can also
be accounted for by the strict adherence to the Sufi traditions and enthusiasm of
the local Sufi sheikhs.
Thus Sufism is indeed the “heart’ of the Sharia and the “soul” of Islam. Sufism and
the Sharia are inseparable, they are one single whole. Together they lead the man
towards perfection, towards the knowledge of the beyond-sense existence (Ma’rifat)
and finally towards the Truth (Hakikat).
I would like to wish the mankind the sooner realization of the greatness and the
true purpose of Sufism – this priceless and sacred spiritual experience of Islam."

There is this pesky little thing called the US Constitution which
will always prevent that. If anything the biggest time the US
was in danger of a religious take over it would have been in
the early 1800s. We survived then, and we have been populated
by too many peoples of different faiths now for that to ever happen.

I realized last night after shutting down the computer that the Party Line
