In case you were wondering "what kind of asshole reelects Bush", I think you
will find the following map pretty informative:

Not to rub it in or anything, but I think if anybody is going to MOVE just
because of this election, get prepared to pay some mighty high rents and
stay very close to home!

The sad thing is my county in ga.. went full on kerry, in fact most all
of atlanta did, however while atlanta is a pretty big place its not big
enought to override the utter ignorance of the rest of the state.

My home state Virginia was at least a little closer than most years....

My thoughts yesterday were as follows:

-My god everyone in my country is stupid.
-Why is everyone so stupid?
-The education system must no longer teach people basic reasoning and
reading skills.
-My god, with a GOP executive and legislative on both national and my
state level, education will go down the shitter...
-Education has been in the shitter for years....
-MY GOD THE GENERATION IN POWER WHEN I RETIRE ARE BEING TRAINED TO BE
DUMB SHEEP!
-YOU OLD FUCKS ARE LUCKY BASTARDS!

Well, ya see, the king has declared that no one is to be than he.

I read a survey-type study some years ago that said some 49%
of the general population think PhD's "know stuff" that makes them
dangerous.

America, and likely the rest of the World, has a long history of
anti-intellectualism. The Catholic Church had big problems with
Copernicus and Galileo, and only just in my lifetime de-excommunicated
Galileo for saying the the Earth is not the center of the Universe.

History is a crooked path, and not always progressing forward.
But generally, toys are getting more interesting and less toxic.

Yesterday, someone asked why some voters seemed to me more
concerned about same-sex marriage than the war in Iraq, but you
have to remember that 9/11 was caused by sodomy. All manner
of disasters were caused by Marlon Brando and Wally Cox friendship.
J. Edgar Hoover's garter belt single-strappedly caused the Korean War.
I am wondering when this democratic republic will get around to formulating

policy according to the voter mix instead of either/or platforms which seem

to result in half of the people being pissed-off all of the time.

I keep saying this. No human progress is possible as long as stupid people
refuse to accept that smart people know more than they do.

Not having information never seems to stop people from having opinions.
Or as Mark Twain put it, "As scarce a commodity as is the truth,
the supply seems to exceed the demand. One study had it that people
in the lowest 12% consistently rate themselves better than average at 62%
--and they don't get jokes, don't understand normal things, and generally shop

at WalMart. I suppose that it is normal for people to overestimate their
talents,
skills, and knowledge; but it is as you say, and the beginning of finding new
things
is finding the edge of your own flat earth.
--"There is more in Heaven and Earth, Horation, than is contained
in thy philosophy."
I think that people are afraid of what they don't know,
ashamed of their nudity (if they're not buff), and sort of photophobic.
It's more fun to curse the darkness than to light a candle; easier and
more comfortable.

But regression is very possible when people
who are smart in one thing refuse to accept
the idea that they are not smart in everything,
and believe that people they think are stupid
are such because they say so.

Two real world examples of this are an English
Lit PhD whose who ventures endless bad opinions
about stock investments and economics; and
Britney Shpears, who, while not the sharpest
tool in the shed has still earned more money
in her young life that half the English Lit
PhDs in the western hemisphere combined.

Obviously, she's not selling her intellectual talents,
and she doesn't speak to my so-called brain, but
she speaks to my nether regions. What she's saying
is, "Wouldn't you like to pack my butt with mayonaisse!"
And admittedly, I would. And also horseradish. But I
think that so far I've spent more of book-learnin'
than on B. Spears products.

The fly in the ointment here, of course, is that smart people DON'T
necessarily know more than stupid people; they merely have the POTENTIAL
to know more. Presuming that one knows more than another has been the bullet
with which one has shot one's foot many times throughout history. At this
point that foot is looking like Swiss cheese.

Smart people don't necessarily even have the potential to know more.
Many people with the extraordinary gift of eidetic memory have very
unextraordinary intelligence test scores, though they can ace any
achievement test.

Intelligence (as intelligence tests claim to measure it) is the capacity
to acquire and apply knowledge. This is not the same as education,
which is just the process of acquiring knowledge. You can't buy
intelligence, but anyone with some free time and some ready cash can buy
an education. Intelligence determines whether they get anything beyond
a flashy scrap of paper out of it.

The old pre-1983 Military Apitute test was considered by some as one of the
best tests of applied knowledge ever produced.

I have taken both the old and the new versions of this test.

The old versions had all sorts of tests to see if you could think a problem
through. as well as a test of General Knowledge. And it took hours and hours to
take. HAd lots of Differant sections for math, Gen Science, Read Comp., as
well.

The new was just another Stadardized test. And you were were only given like 2
hours to take it.

No, they just refract the rays, causing them to suffer a spectrum shift.

Thats becuase the parties have switched positions on the Spectrum.

in 1865, it was the Democrats were trying to keep the Status Quo.

The Repu's were the party of progresive Change. It was the Party of Teddy
Roservelt, the 'Trust Buster" who started what his Cousin F.D.R. tried to
finish.

It was T.R. who cuase the split of the Repug's at the turn of the Century.

After he failed to get elected under his Bull Moose Party, his followerd
defected the Repug's and went to the Dem's.

The Dem power in the South was becuase of their position during the Civil War.
After the Civil Rights Act, they defected to the Repug's.

In fact, L.B.J. stated after he signed that law he had just given the South to
the GOP.

I exepct more "purges" of teh voting rolls attempted in otehr staes that the
GOP currently controls. And if Delay's power grab in Texas is not over truned
by the Courts, expect to see attempts by the GOP to "redistrict" them sleves
into permanent Power.

But that can also change, OC in California used to be a stuanch GOP area.
Thanks to the influx of low paid workers whe clean thir houses, trim their
lawns, and baby sit their kids, the GOP is loosing it grip in the OC
