Bags of dead dogs discovered

GATE CITY - A construction worker checking a remote southwest Virginia
road found carcasses and body parts of about 150 dogs near the banks of
a Clinch River tributary, sheriff's officials said Thursday.
The dogs were found shortly after noon Wednesday on an embankment off
Va. 72, a few miles from town, sheriff's department investigator Chris Holder
said. The dogs had been dead about two to five days, he said.
"When we got to the scene, you just could not believe the smell, and the
amount of dogs down there was just unbelievable," Holder said. "I've never
seen anything like it. It looks like a deliberate dumping."
The animals were found in plastic trash bags and biohazard bags and
some had spilled out, he said. Investigators found information in the bags --
including a dog tag -- indicating that the animals were from outside Scott
County, though Holder would not be more specific. An FBI agent was called
to the scene near the Tennessee border on Thursday, Holder said.
The animals were dumped at two separate sites, and none of the bags
appeared to have entered the waterway, which flows into Copper Creek
and eventually the Clinch River, officials said.
Officials from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, state Department
of Health and state hazardous waste personnel were called in to evaluate the
conditions, said Jeff Brickey, county emergency services coordinator.
Brickey stated that preliminary tests at the site indicate no damage to the waters
of Obeys Creek, but crews would have to remove the carcasses because of
forecasted rainfall.
The bags contained various breeds, including Rottweilers, German shepherds,
Labrador retrievers and a few small-breed dogs, Holder said. The animals apparently
were euthanized and some toys also were found in the bags.

Guess they had too many Easter dog carcasses this year.
Unlike the chocky bunnies that they can recycle, the
dog carcasses have to be fresh, or the Easter rabbit
won't have any Roman soldiers to nail him to a cross
for the traditional Easter cruxifiction.

Jeez. You'd think they could at least throw them down an old mineshaft.

Yeah, I would have kept the toys, too.
When I was in Vancouver they found about 300 bodies
out on one of the remote beaches. A place had been
offering $99 funerals, and burying people in old refrigerator
boxes. They wait until they had a bunch of them and dig a big hole.
