Pentagon says tough duty bonuses are budget-buster
Edward Epstein, Chronicle Washington Bureau Thursday,
August 14, 2003 (c)2003 San Francisco Chronicle

Washington -- The Pentagon wants to cut the pay of its 148,000 U.S.
troops in Iraq, who are already contending with guerrilla-style
attacks,
homesickness and 120- degree-plus heat.

Unless Congress and President Bush take quick action when Congress
returns after Labor Day, the uniformed Americans in Iraq and the 9,000
in
Afghanistan will lose a pay increase approved last April of $75 a
month
in "imminent danger pay" and $150 a month in "family separation
allowances."

The Defense Department supports the cuts, saying its budget can't
sustain the higher payments amid a host of other priorities. But the
proposed
cuts have stirred anger among military families and veterans' groups
and
even prompted an editorial attack in the Army Times, a weekly
newspaper for
military personnel and their families that is seldom so outspoken.

http://www.house.gov/writerep/
will take you straight to your congressman's email.

I can GUARANTEE you that each and every family spends more than the
$225 a month because their family member is gone: mailing packages,
stuff for the packages, extra child care cause
spouse isn't there to help out, etc........get the picture?

*****BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT ALERT******

October 1st is the start of the new budget
cycle. For that reason, and that reason
alone, this time of year you will see
planted stories about military families
living in public parks and eating dog food;
serial child-killer peadofiles teaching
Satanism in "our" classrooms before driving
around with road rage; and environmental shit
like reports that molecules are clogging
our rivers and THE AIR WE BREATHE!

In other words, NOW is the time to get budget
increases, or get your budgets slashed. The
Pentagon, the FBI, and all the other bureau-
piggies are headin' for the trough!

Remember, unless they frighten you, they
might LOSE OVER 1/100th of 1% of the JUICY,
DELICIOUS BUDGET INCREASES THAT AMERICA
NEEDS OR ELSE WE'LL ALL DIIIIIIIEEEEE!!!

Well, Thurston Howell *did* give his wife Lovey
an expensive diamond ring on December 14th, which
must be some kind of rich person's holiday.

He explained it away by saying they were celebrating
December 14th "because it only comes once a year",
but I think that was a likely story.

Imagine the filthy rich, having their decadent Dec.
14th party/orgy, where they do *things* so awful
that poor people would never do them. Disgusting,
expensive, lewd, rich people things.

You should see what they do to the civillian employees that go over there.
They get 3$ a day perdiem and that's it. No hazzardous duty pay, just a kick
in the ass with a dusty boot. On the bright side (if you can call it that)
the income earned by the military when over there is tax free after a month on
station. (for now)

How about this.. How about the DoD launch one fewer multimillion dollar weapon
against mud huts.... Or shitcan putting new marble in some Generals house.
GOD knows Gen Snuffy can't possibly do his job when faced with having to navigate
year old marble floors. (long story best suited for evening news)

Don't know where the SF paper is getting their info:

DoD Statement on Family Separation Allowance and Imminent Danger Pay

In April, after the President's Budget was submitted, Congress
authorized an increase in both the Family Separation Allowance (on a
worldwide basis) and Imminent Danger Pay and legislated that these
increases would expire on Sept. 30, 2003. The department is aware of
the problem that would result for those serving in Iraq and
Afghanistan if these allowances were allowed to expire. This is an
issue of targeting those most deserving, and certainly people serving
in Iraq and Afghanistan are in these categories. We intend to ensure
they continue to receive this compensation at least at the current
levels.

Army Times http://www.armytimes.com has more info. Its been a sore spot with
military folk for some weeks now, but apparently the issue has been
resolved.

To quote Dr. Legume:

They VOLUNTEERED... for the SHITTIEST JOB IN THE UNIVERSE.

I appreciate the sacrifices that our soldiers have made. But we're not
talking about people who were conscripted.

These people VOLUNTEERED.

One must wonder just what exactly WERE they thinking.

Nonetheless. It's just terrible the way the government treats its
soldiers. Making them die and so forth.
