WASHINGTON (AFP) - A senior Republican lawmaker said
that deteriorating security in Iraq may force the
United States to reintroduce the military draft.
"There's not an American (fap,fap,fap)... that
doesn't
understand what we are engaged in today and what the
prospects are for the future," Senator Chuck Hagel
told a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on
post-occupation Iraq.
"Why shouldn't we ask all of our citizens to bear
some
responsibility and pay some price?" Hagel said,
arguing
that RESTORING COMPULSORY MILITARY SERVICE WOULD FORCE
"OUR CITIZENS TO UNDERSTAND THE INTENSITY AND DEPTH
OF
CHALLENGES WE FACE."
The Nebraska Republican added that a draft, which was
ended in the early 1970s, would spread the burden of
military service in Iraq more equitably among various
social strata...
(WHUT?! Ahahahaha! BULLSHEET!)

I sure do. Billions sunk into Vietnam: The Sequeal.
Afghanistan
American style. A pointless waste of endless lives,
however many poor
slobs we draft.
Making our prospects for the future roughly analogous

Soviet after -their- Afghani surf holiday.

o-tay Chuck. I'll be on that plane to sand-lice land
right behind ya,
boy.

a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it

If things continue as they have been, it's only a matter

I KNEW there had to be a plus side to my son having asthma.

There is something definitely "up" with asthma.
The rate among children in Britain is now around
50-freaking-percent!
Theories abound about what the HELL is causing it;
but one thing is for sure--that when epidemic levels
of a disease happen, there is one heck of a lot more
research done to find out why.

Not to be a smart-ass, or anything like that, but how
many laws have
ever existed that *didn't* favor the wealthy and the
powerful? Who
writes the laws? Who bribes--pardon me, "contributes
soft money
to"--Congressmen in the first place? Who says
"give me X, Y, and Z as
my legal team has written up, in the next session of
Congress, or you
don't get any more soft money?"
Maybe I'm just too cynical, I dunno.
Like Elvis Costello says, "I used to be disgusted,
now I find I'm just
amused."

Grotesquely enough, "Congressional Aides"
aka
"Hill Rats", write most of the law. Except
when
they, not their congressman, are given the law
tailored by some special interest or corporate
legal team or lobbyist, to submit. In the latter
cases, the Hill Rats insert their own stuff ALSO
to put their "mark" on the bill. Often, really
dumbshit stuff, like "Congress also gives $100M
to the family of the Hill Rat, because he is such
a good worker."
A great reference to how things are really done
is the book "Hill Rat":
http://tinyurl.com/2uqyu
Amusingly enough, most congressmen don't even
*read* the bills *they* are supposedly introducing,
much less anyone else's bills.
And THEN, to make matters worse, they "caucus"
at
private POLITICAL PARTY social clubs to figure
out how they are going to:
Actually vote for whatever, plus contingency
plans to NOT vote on it; to sabotage it; to
salvage it; and to have some opposite vote
in which they can appear to have been against
it, while actually supporting it.
And THEN, they meet with the other party, and
talk about what they are REALLY going to do, then
how they are going to LIE about it to the public.
(Why?) Because the assumption is that the public
understands NOTHING that they do, so must be lied
to about EVERYTHING, to keep them happy.
In other words, when they vote to buy a new guided
missile cruiser, it is *really* because the Navy
wants and needs it, and it will give lots of jobs
to a congressman whose district needs jobs, and it
be cheaper to get it now, rather than wait a year,
FOR EXAMPLE.
But they TELL the public that we HAVE to have a
new guided missile cruiser because of the impending
invasion of the Al Qaeda Navy! Solely because they
know that THAT IS WHAT THE PUBLIC WANTS TO HEAR.
Or at least that is how dumbshit they think the
public is.
Now, don't you feel all better about voting?

any politician who favors the draft should lead by example.
perhaps as some
kind of human shield.
is there a military term for "someone who runs
out onto the battlefield to
draw enemy fire, enabling Our Guys to pinpoint enemy
emplacements"? they can
do that, too.
