In this town's fishwrapper of a newspaper, there was
an interview with some
has been rock star concerning his views on illegal downloading.
He suggested, why don't people simply steal the iPods
right out of the
store, since they are no good without a continuous stream
of illegal MP3's.
He imagined how they would feel if their gear was stripped
off the store
shelves by millions of people without paying.
Pretty interesting turn on this hefty matter, I must
admit. People will
actually pay $300 for something that requires them to
commit another crime,
instead of stealing the tools to do the job. Heh, a
moral conundrum that's
for sure!

That fucking idiot. Unfuckingbelievable.
For the last time: mp3s are not illegal. You can buy
mp3s from iTunes
etc., or rip them from CDs you legally own. iPods are
not "no good
without a continuous stream of illegal mp3s," they're
VERY good even
without a single illegal bit ever touching their hard
drive.
I wonder if his comments weren't influenced by some
"suggested talking
points" or some such bullshit from a label rep.

An iPod does not require you to commit any crime in
order to use it.
Filling one with 100% legal mp3s is trivially easy.
People do it all
the time.
Who is this fuckup? I'll be sure never to pay for any of his work again.

Most likely a has been or a never was (Metallica maybe?).
Seems to be a
trend that struggling artist love the whole idea of
downloads and people
spreading the word about a new artist. It is only the
heavily entrenched
fully established ones who make any noise against it.

My constant comeback to illegeal file swapping is this:
Libraries.
Libraries buy ONE COPY of something (book) and then
anyone who wants
it can get it for pretty much as long as they want.
Tastes exactly
like Kazza to me, and you don't hear Stephen King bitching
about how
libraries are stealing his cash left and right.
(Now comes the skewering, because I know there are holes
in that
analogy...)

LIBRARIES HATE AMERICA!
Actually, with RFID coming to public libraries, your
checked-out books
become another useful citizen-suspect tracking tool
for law enforcement.
Passive RFID tags in checked-out books, even if they
don't reveal the
actual title, can be traced back to the library and
your card and your
identity. Coupled with the Patriot Act's notorious pre-emptive
gag order
on librarians, you could be tracked through many public
places without
your knowledge or consent quite easily. As long as you
carry it with
you, or carry it in a briefcase or backpack, you can
be "pinged."
Now go have a great week everybody!
