(Phoenix, AZ) -- A new law passed in the
legislature says individuals and businesses
can no longer ask for social security numbers.
In an effort to prevent identity theft,
lawmakers passed a bill that will also not
allow social security numbers to be printed
on any information that is mailed. The law
also pertains to all state and local
governments and will be effective in 2005.

Considering it actually says on the card "For Social
Security and Tax
Purposes - Not for Identification", this is something
that's
reinforcing a law that's been broken for decades. Wonder
if it will
catch on?
