Wilmington, NC - Near the permanent berth of
the Battleship North Carolina, there is a
hamburger stand. The hamburgers there are
typical, fairly large, and you can sit down
aqand have lunch while you look at the battleship.
But just down from the small bluff on which the
hamburger stand sits, resting on the shore next
to the water, there is an alligator. Most every
day, he arrives early, and waits for the tourists
to arrive at the hamburger stand.
Because they feed him goodies. Lots of goodies.
Hamburgers. Cheeseburgers. Double hamburgers
and cheeseburgers. French fries. Onion rings.
Hot dogs. Even the occassional ice cream,
Snickers bar or other goodies that can be bought
there.
Such a rich diet would bulk about anybody up,
and in his case, it makes him wider and wider.
Laying down all day and eating, he now resembles
more than not a dark green and scaly, flattened
bean bag chair.
He has become an alligator overman.
