Producer/director Sidney Pink died on Saturday October
12 in Pompano
Beach,
Florida.
The man who gave the world;
REPTILICUS (the Danish hand puppet monster seen as
the swamp monster on
an episode of the Beverly Hillbillies and lots of other
places)
ANGRY RED PLANET and JOURNEY TO THE 7th PLANET two of
the greatest wacky
Sci-Fi Flicks of the '60s
Worked with Arch Oboler on FIVE, THE TWONKY (alien
TV) and
BWANA DEVIL (starting the 3-D fad of the '50s)
He discovered Dustin Hoffman in an off-Broadway
play (Eh? that became the amazing Brit. flick WORKIS
A FOUR LETTER WORD)
And suggested him for the lead in THE GRADUATE.

Who can forget the great Bat-Rat-Spider monster of the
Angry Red
Planet, and the giant amoeba with a spinning eye that
grabbed one
hapless astronomer and ate him in front of our wondering
eyes? Like
so many others, I saw this and the great REPTILICUS
on the immortal
Creature Double Feature. REPTILICUS in particular was
replayed at
least once a year, and it was quite a while indeed before
I realized
how lousy the movie supposedly was!
