Installed the pre-public release of Slackware 9 yesterday
and this new OS
ROCKS! The new KDE 3.1 desktop is nothing short of a
work of art, and
setting up my hardware was a breeze. Nothing to configure,
other than
xf86.
Slackware has had a bit of a bad name due to the fact
it is built for the
geek, i.e. you have to think for yourself to get it
running. This is
unlike some of the other Linii out there where everything
is done for you,
and all you do is point-and -crunt while not really
leaning anything along
the way. The thing Slackware always HAS had going for
it is the fact it is
far more stable and can run well on older equipment
due to it's
intelligent design. It simply doesnt waste system resources
like most of
the other distributions do.
With this newest release, even the most inexperienced
should be able to
get a box up and running without too much toil, and
it does'nt appear that
the system will suffer from the added convienience.
Thanks Patrick, great job!
