Baghdad - Attacking US troops of the 101st Airborne
Division were
stunned today to find cheering throngs of Iraqi civilians
rushing to
greet them near Baghdad.
Cries of "Welcome to the great liberators!"
rose from the crowd as
they threw flowers at the feet of the advancing infantrymen.
Reports
remain sketchy but it appears that the number of demonstrating
Iraqis
number at least in the tens of thousands.
According to division interpreters that we have been
able to speak
with, the Iraqis were afraid to embrace their liberators
for fear of
repercussions from Saddam's secret police. A revolt
is reported to
have occured last night, and the demonstrators are claiming
to have
hung Saddam and his immediate circle of advisors.

"That my good friend, may have some "truthful"
substance. Why? Last
evening from a viewing, stationary camera with sound
on, came shots which
sounded like popcorn, on going for a long, long time.
The shots were small
arms and plenty of them. Could this have been what
you described below as a
"revolt?" (or part of it?)
