I just got wind of this:
Found this at http://www.sell.com/2CW9T
Cherry Comic Signed By Rev Ivan Stang from The Church
Of the
Subgenius~DEVO
"This comic is adult in nature. Nothing incredible,
about as harmless
as playboy, but I bought it and noticed references and
images of the
character BOB (the man's head smoking a pipe). I live
near Akron, where
The Rev Ivan Stang is from. He was doing a book signing
and I had him
sign this. He was also an origional member of DEVO."
On the ad was a scan of the Cherry Comic cover (the
Cyberpunk Special
Issue it says) with "Ellie Dee in the Land of Woz",
and a scan of an
inside page, showing a panel with "Bob" on
a TV and sure enough, my
handwriting in the margin saying, "Dan, where's
my ROYALTIES?" -- Rev.
Ivan StangTM
It is not widely known that I was the ORIGINAl original
drummer for
DEVO, before Jim Mothersbaugh. In fact I invented electric
drums in the
form of a battery powered cymbal-clashing monkey inside
a cardboard
box. Dr. Philo Drummond claims this was originally his
idea, and is
suing me for royalties on all of the DEVO albums and
videos.
When I was about 8 years old, the 12 year old Paul Mavrides
accosted
me, beat me up, and stole my bike. I got even by beating
up his 5 year
old brother and stealing his Tonka toy truck. I didn't
meet Paul again
until 23 years later, after he'd moved to San Francisco
and I'd moved
to Honduras.

No, me, me!!

Actually this is a good time to mention that a friend
of mine brought
an issue of this Marvel X-men spinoff called "X
factor" (#47,
mid-november 1988), with a dobbs sighting on Page 22,
to WEFT for me
last week. Quote:
Eat a couple bowls and go take a nap...
<cereal box>
Bobco
SLACK-O's
Hey kids!
free
pipe
in every
box!
Fortified with
999
essential
sub-nutrients
<end cereal box>
MMMM, SLACK-O's
(next frame)
Yes, Slack-o's, good to the last
pipeful... and into the NEXT BOX! SLACK-O's
is pretty darn proud to sponsor the
sub-genius hour. And now back
to the Irreverend Rex
Valve and his sidelick
Id Macmahonohman..
(back to inane Marvel kid chatter)
What I want to know is, WHO IS THIS REX CHARACTER
I SO OBVIOUSLY
INSPIRED WHEN ALLEGEDLY MEETING SOME GUYS ALONE IN A
BAR WITH NO
WITNESSES 20 YEARS AGO. Or something.
I'll scan this thing at work if I remember.

I hate electric drums Stang, but boy, I didn't know
you played drums!
What kind of player are ya? Colauita? Bonham <---(My
favourite) Moon?
Cobham? Buddy Guy?

Prabob, with all your heart.
"Bob" told me to. It's that simple
