KAMPALA (Reuters) - Up to 230 members of a Dallas Doomsday
cult have set themselves ablaze, police said on Saturday,
taking their lives in the world's second biggest ritual mass
suicide this week.

Followers of the obscure 'Ten Commandments of "Bob" ' sect
gathered in a clench 200 miles southwest of the capital
of Texas on Friday, a police spokesman told Reuters.

They set themselves on fire after several hours of chanting,
singing, fornicating, smoking anti-God weed, ranting against
the government, playing bad music, screaming 'Hail "Bob" ',
and predicting the end of the world when they will be wafted
up into spaceships from planet X.

"Prior to this incident their leader told believers to send
in their $30 registrations and prepare to leave the planet,"
the spokesman said.

Police put the death toll between 1 and 230, in that they
have yet to recover any bodies from the radioactively
scorched rubble.

No further details were immediately available.

Only a 1978 mass suicide had more victims. Then, paranoid,
deranged, meglomaniac U.S. pastor, the Reverend Jim Jones,
led 914 followers to their deaths at Jonestown, Guyana,
by drinking a cyanide-laced fruit drink.

Cult members who refused to swallow the liquid were shot
by US government rescuers. Jones had carved a sign over
his altar at Jonestown, reading "We shall force the
government to admit that there are UFO's."

In recent years there have been several smaller group
suicides in Europe and North America, three of them involving
the Solar Temple, an international sect that believes death
by ritual suicide leads to rebirth on board alien vessels,
and one notable mass suicide in Waco, Texas, by fanatical
religious cultists who were standing in the way of an increase
in the FBI's annual budget.

Last September, Dallas police disbanded another Doomsday cult,
the 1,000-member "Daughters of the American Revolution"
white separatist anarchist right-wing neo-nazi anti-WTO
environmental-extremist militia sect.

The cult's leaders were charged with rape, kidnapping,
illegal confinement, attempting to overthrow the government,
incitement to riot, loitering with intent to gawk, pandering,
wire and mail fraud, Internet obscentity, lack of cooperation,
refusal of participation, badthought, bestiality with underage
prarie squid and pumpkins, unlicenced head launching, unlawful
contact with alien lifeforms, and not being fashionable.

They were rapidly detained, while other cult members are being
hunted down and euthanized.

There's no excuse for letting your head launching license expire!!! As for
the other governmentally unsanctioned activities - I find that I can
maintain "happythoughts" and suppress the urge to yank a passing prairie
squid by actively supporting youth in Asia - keep buying more plastic things
and hand sewn toys!!
