G Gordon Gordon, Dok Frop and Sister Decadence were
here at the Lodge
until today, so in a way, the 8th X-Day Drill is just
now ending for
us.
It was the easiest yet for me personally. Drummond and
Gordon fought
with each other the whole time, sparing me some of their
bottomless
vituperation. Nonetheless, tonight, our first night
home alone in a
week, We/I needed to chill out, to, yes, escape from
"Bob" and the
Church, so to speak.
So, thanks to Pater Nostril who loaned us a copy, we
watched the movie,
"Trekkies."
It's a truly horrifying, exhilirating, amazing experience,
if you're a
SubGenius, and you just left a large X-Day Drill.
I can't even begin to describe how it felt for Wei and
me to watch that
documentary film about Star Trek cultists. Both horror
and relief.
Weirdo shame mingled with weirdo pride. We ought to
show it at Dr.
Dark's Drive-In next year.
My favorite event at X-Day was the downpour on Friday
night. It's a
real shame that it killed the power just as ESO was
starting up, and
drowned 3 cameras across the campground that I know
of, but, Princess
Wei and I ended up taking shelter inside my van for
half an hour or so.
THAT WAS MY FAVORITE PART OF X-DAY: BEING LOCKED IN
A VAN WITH MY WIFE
FOR HALF AN HOUR. Don't get me wrong! We had a grand
time seeing all
the old and new friends, and even the ones that piss
everybody off. But
as it happened, getting trapped in a van with Princess
Wei, Queen of
ALL the UFOs, turned out for us to be the most SUBLIME
form of
unexpected INVOLUNTARY SLACK.
At the 7 am Token Awaiting and Almost Assured Disappointment,
I gave my
most resigned "TOKEN 7 A.M. RANT" ever, completely
deconstructing the
entire thing and at one point muttering about how life
and
consciousness are mere transient whirling motes in a
vast engine of
uncaring meaninglessness, or something along those lines.
This outburst
of nihilism provided me great pleasure.
We stayed up all night this time, so as not to miss
the 7 a.m.
festivities or even the very remotely possible actual
Rupture.
When the Logo Ikon was burned -- something we hadn't
expected the
Brushwood staff to repeat, but evidently they hate "Bob"
like we do --
I was again called upon to spout some kind of meaningful
bullshit off
the top of my head, and if I remember correctly it was
another forceful
expression of boredom with repetitive rituals and the
name "Bob," which
by that point EVERYBODY was sick of.
My formal rant by contrast was meant to be my most hopeful,
"Bob"-praisin' and inspirational rant ever.
I ripped off the tail end
of it from the Morpheus rant in that new Matrix movie.
As always, the real surprises were all offstage, off
mike, off screen,
off line, and off kilter. Lke the others, I am still
trying to separate
fact from fantasy in my mind, but I'll try to get some
kind of
illustrated reports up on SubSITE. My eager friend Nenslo
will love the
photos we'll post to a.b.s.
P.S. LET IT BE KNOWN: This X-Day was also the annual
meeting of the
current SubGenius Foundation, Inc. officers, and their
bodyguards and
physicians; that business was dispatched in the Cleveland
offices prior
to the Brushwood campground training weekend.
