Dirty Duck

http://us.imdb.com/Title?0072882

I kind of stumbled across this one. Haven't
seen it. Any relation to Bobby London's
"Dirty Duck"?

No -- well, yes. The movie was designed to capitalize
on the popularity of Fritz the Cat. Bobby London had been doing Dirty Duck for
a while. The strip appeared
fairly prominently in the National Lampoon, so the
name certainly boasted some recognition, especially
in the field of underground comics. It is likely that
the producers wished to capitalize on the name
established by London.

The Hollywood board meeting could have gone
something like this:

PRODUCER 1:
Well, that dirty Fritz the Cat cartoon was a
big hit with the kids.

PRODUCER 2:
You bet. Maybe this is the beginning of a crazy
new trend -- we should try and cash in on it.
These dirty cartoons could be the next big
thing to hit Hollywood!

PRODUCER 1:
Okay, well what's another dirty cartoon character
up for exploitin'?

PRODUCER 2:
Well, there's this one called Dirty Duck. . . .

PRODUCER 1:
Is that a copyrighted property?

PRODUCER 2:
Not only is is non-copyrighted,
but this London guy is one of those dirty
cartoonists that drew Mickey Mouse fucking
Minnie!

PRODUCER 1:
Hey! My uncle works for Disney!
Fuck that guy! "DIRTY DUCK" it is!

The movie does hold some interest due
to voices & music by Howard Kaylan &
Mark Volman (a.k.a. "The Turtles" and/or
"Flo & Eddie" of Zappa, T-Rex et al).

That's REV. Howard Kaylan.

Another oddity about this movie is a long, probably improvised ranting
vocal appearance by a once-Dallas character actor named Robert Ridgely,
who plays a redneck sherriff, or something like that, in the cartoon. I
mention him because he is one sick and very funny motherfucker. I have
a couple of tapes made by Dallas sound recordists of Ridgely cutting up
between takes on various commercials. (Similar to a Jonathan Winters
tape that soundmen also circulate.) The thing he did -- at least I
THINK it's him -- that many SubGenii would recognize is the incredible
chuck-wagon cattle drive buttfuck scene between "John Wayne" and
"Walter Brennan". Ridgely would be Wayne. This is heard on the first of
the XXX-Rated Internet Only Hours of Slack.

When I saw Dirty Duck I was astounded at how they'd fucked over Bobby
London. But I was already familiar with just how totally fucked Ralph
Bakshi had been with Crumb... I figured that underground comix were
sort of by definition incompatible with Hollywood.

From what Mavrides and Shelton say, it is a blessing that none of the
Fabulous Freak Borthers movie projects ever happened. Shelton made good
$ off optioning it repeatedly, though.

Is that still up on Sub-Site? If so whats the URL? If not could someone
post an MP3? It was real audio as I recall..

There WAS a PorN flick tho, also had Mr Natural in it. Preety much what
you would expect from the golden age of chezzy sleaze, fun but silly.

London reports that he served the producers a
cease & desist back in 1977. He didn't mention
any current litigation, but they're selling it again
and he's certainly got "actionable cause". . .

"DD" (a.k.a. "Cheap", get it?) was not the usual high-
quality product that Rev. Kaylan and the Flouescent
von Fraumleech are usually associated with.

For this sort of thing one might venture to find copies
of "The New York Erotic Film Festival" winners from
the early 70's.

STANG <<...once-Dallas character actor named Robert Ridgely,

From IMDB:
"Movies on TV this week for Robert Ridgely:
High Anxiety (1978)
Boogie Nights (1997)
Blazing Saddles (1974)...
'Paul Thomas Anderson wrote
the part of the Colonel [in Boogie Nights]
specifically for Bob Ridgely.'"

Oddly, the late Bob Ridgely (d.1997) was a F.O.A.F. of Bobby London's (who did
not know Ridgely was involved with that
film until now).
