July 4 to 7

SubGenii can start any time they like at Brushwood. The calendar will
list it as the weekend starting Friday July 5, but I'm sure most of us will
get there early, since there won't be anything THERE afterwards.

Probably.

Considering what the guys and girls in this Church are like, the smell
alone would drive the pagans away for 48 hours, at least. I'm for it.

Heh heh- well, what's funny is, the Lakota pipekeeper who ran the last run
of lodge ceremonies I attended, had been given authority from the
pipekeepers on the Rez to bring in women to ceremonies, due to the great
need for "healing of the nations". So nowadays, women participate in
ceremonies, and it's really cool. Everyone gathers wood, women usually make
the food and the flags/tobacco ties, and the fellers build the fire, cut the
wood and handle the rocks. (which they can have, by the way. Women can cut
wood if we want to but usually we get out of that nasty job by cooking.)
It's really neat to participate and make it a group effort.

A century ago and more, women had their own mysteries, medicine lodges and
sweats, for good reason. They still do, but when it comes to the need for
greater visibility in western culture, and when pipekeepers are acting as
missionaries, it's a good idea to make things more inclusive if still
traditional.
