Anti-War Logic

"Gee, I'm a little nervous about going to get the mail today, what
with the bioterror and all."

"Honey, don't be silly! We OPPOSE the war, so the anthrax won't infect
US! The biological warfare is only directed at those bloody-minded
people who want to destroy those poor beleaguered al-Quaida freedom
fighters!"

"And they say here they might have a suitcase nuke..."

"So what? I'm sure noble freedom fighters took the time to use the
kind of bomb that only irradiates those to the right of the political
center! I mean, who do you think they are, crazed killers or
something?"

"And bin Laden himself has recently stated that all good Muslims
should rejoice in the 9/11 attacks. Honey, you have a funny look on
your face, are you OK?"

"Sure, sure, just thinking...um, um, they have no evidence! No wait,
that's irrelevant to people enjoying mass murder...um, it's in
response to U.S. policy!"

"What policy would that be?"

"Well, all those countries we brutalized in the Middle East!"

"Um, sweetie, America never had a colony in the Middle East, that was
France and England and Italy."

"Well, what about the Shah? Huh, huh? What about HIM?"

"Well, that might be a reason, but the kind of Muslims they have in
Iran actually HATE the Muslims of Afghanistan, and vice-versa. So
attacking America because they hurt your bitter enemy doesn't really
make a lot of sense."

"Well, I don't know the details, but I'm sure America's at the bottom
of it!!"

"Agreed. I'm so glad we have THAT settled."

I understand that you're pissed off, Bishop. But there's a problem with
making the complex simple. The complex isn't simple. It's complex. It's
fucking complex as hell.

You should take a closer look at some of the arguments before you
characterize as simpletons folks who question this war. Drawing this
sort of ridiculous picture of non-warmongers does nothing but make
warmongers look like crackpots too. You're not "cutting through any
bullshit" because it's cartoon bullshit you've imagined.

America DID fuck up. We fucked up MAJORLY, FIFTY YEARS AGO, when we
consciously decided NOT to seriously pursue energy alternatives to oil.
It WILL run out, or become much more expensive at best, and the world
WILL plunge into slow motion chaos. The U.S. is merely positioning
itself to try to stay at the top of the heap when the shit comes down.
This war probably WAS planned, probably by both sides (Western and
Middle Eastern zillionairre contingents, both, though not necessarily
cooperating). I would just as soon see the West maintain its power base
for the simple reason that I'm Western and I think the Middle Eastern
approach is generally FAR WORSE. (The Russians and the Far Eastern Cons
don't seem to mind us doing some of their dirty work for them, either.)
So while part of me thinks this current Afghanistan bombing is a
charade, I understand that it's probably just an early phase of the
long-term colonization we have planned. In other words, somebody's
going to be the jack booted thugs who hold down the population as it
all gradually goes berserk, so why not us, us being the Western
Conspiracy. Bummer? You bet. I would say Food not Bombs, but food
doesn't even slow down our opposite tough guys; in fact, they resell
it, like we would.

I just think that pretending that this is about anything else but World
War III and the conquest of the oil fields is kinda dumb. Call it what
it is -- kings using the rest of us as pawns, in order to stay one jump
ahead of the neighboring kings. For our own good, of course. For all I
know it IS for our own good. Think about it. If you were the most
educated, powerful, richest guy in the world, like unto a god, and you
saw trouble a-brewin', wouldn't you be tempted to try "pruning back the
branches" for the good of the whole tree, even if it meant some
branches had to go? You'd probably feel a RESPONSIBILITY to do so. Talk
about social engineering.

Personally I want to try to be self sufficient as much as possible, so
that I can pick up and move on if the needs of kings start conflicting
with my needs too much.

Easy to SAY.

And you NEVER, EVER escape the Conspiracy, no matter how alone you are!
That mean bully cop lurks inside your VERY BRAIN and mine. I think it
goes with that "evolution" thing. Hmmph. Just not fair.
