Sub-IRC Chat Hints

The IRC chat #subgenius on the fef.net system is being plagued by a nick-stealer. "Stang" has been stolen, as has "Iceknife", and many others as well. I think it's pretty obvious who would do such a thing, so let's not go there. Anyway, if you would like to ensure that you and only you can use your nickname, you must register it, a simple and painless FREE procedure that takes about three seconds (which is what made it so easy for the thieves to do in the first place). You simply log on using the nickname you want to register, then, in the "status" or other general, start-up type window, type as follows:

/msg nickserv register password

but you SUBSTITUTE a unique password for the word "password" above. Nickserv does NOT have an "e" at the end of it. If you need help, you can type /msg nickserv help register.

Once your nickname is registered, you will have to give your password ONLY IF you log on from a DIFFERENT computer than the one you used to register, so register from the computer you're going to be using most often, and remember your password.

Registering also lets you do this nifty thing, where if you get into a situation where you've disconnected and come back on, but fef.net didn't realize that you left, and still has your nickname up there and makes you use an alternate, you don't have to beg people to kill your clone, you can just type:

/msg nickserv ghost nickname password

[once again substituting your nickname and unique password for the words "nickname" and "password" above]

THEN you'll look like a super-elite hacker and all the chicks and guys will dig you because of your mad skillz.
